From the news site: “TEMPE, Ariz. — Tempe police said there was nothing of concern inside a cardboard box found in the roadway near Spence Avenue and Newberry Lane Friday morning.
Lt. Scott Smith said the package was reported to police by a passerby.
Tempe police bomb technicians investigated and cleared the package.
Tempe police confirmed to 3TV that the box in the image above is the “suspicious package” they investigated. They opened the box and nothing was inside.
Police do not know where the box came from or how it was left in the road.
During the investigation, Tempe police and fire units cordoned off and evacuated the immediate area as a precaution. Everyone has been allowed back into their homes and traffic restrictions were lifted.”
I like how the reporter on the video uses the words “suspicious device found” and is reporting the wrong object as the “device”.
If you’re wondering why the box looks familiar, it’s from super mario/mario kart.

David Edelstein on the cast of J.J. Abrams’ new Star Trek Into Darkness:
The movie doesn’t hold up to post-viewing scrutiny — which matters if you want to see it again. But I found it so much fun to see its variations on an old theme that I found myself having a good time. I surrendered to the bombardment. The new cast is still disconcerting. By the end of the original Trek, the actors were a collection of paunches and hairpieces; these guys are so trim and tender-skinned, they’re like the Baby Looney Tunes.
